This is an excerpt from the article: 4 Grades of Essential Oils – How They Differ and Why You Need to Know the Difference.
• Grade A essential oils are pure therapeutic quality, usually made from organically grown plants steam-distilled at the proper temperatures or cold pressed rinds for citrus oils.
• Grade B essential oils are food grade. They may contain: synthetics! pesticides! fertilizers! chemical/synthetic extenders! or carrier oils. [YIKES!] With all those unnecessary toxins…how these can be approved as ‘food grade’?
• Grade C oils are perfume grade and may contain the same type of adulterating chemicals as food grade oils. They may contain [carcinogenic] solvents to gain a higher yield of oil per harvest.
And YES, these chemicals and inferior ingredients are in products sold in natural food stores, don’t allow yourself to be fooled by the words “natural” any longer! For those who know what pure essential oils smell like, anything else stinks…
• Floral Water (ie. Hydrosol*) is a byproduct of the distillation process, very high quality if it comes from a Grade A distillation process. Accordingly, it would be very low quality if it comes from poor quality raw materials and/or poor distillation processes. It’s [an ingredient] usually found in skin and hair products.
Purity DOES matter in essential oil grades for food, health, and cosmetics!
The current regulatory system allows synthetic chemicals into our lives, unless the chemical is proven beyond doubt to be dangerous. Learn more in our RESOURCES links that follow.
